Manipuri Folk dance Thaabal Chongba: 11 photos from JNU Campus
These are Thaabal Chongba dance from JNU campus which is an annual and a very popular event in the JNU Campus where Manipuri people, other students from the North East, foreigners and other students visit to dance and or watch. As I am typing this (11 pm, 27 February 2010) and publishing the pics here the dance is still in progress near my hostel.
Here is more about Thabal Chongba from the GOI site:
Thabal Chongba is a popular Manipuri folk dance associated with the festival of Holi. The literal meaning of Thabal is ‘moonlight’ and Chongba means ‘dance’, thus ‘dancing in the moonlight’. Traditionally conservative Manipuri parents did not allow their daughters to go out and meet any young men without their consent. Thabal Chongba therefore provided the only chance for girls to meet and talk to boys.
So here are the photos of the even at the KV grounds, JNU campus

Saraswati Puja Photos from JNU campus
JNU campus students celebrate Saraswati Puja, Durga Puja and some other festivals. The following photos are of the Saraswati Puja celebrations (murthi) at JNU KC OAT and one photo of the puja at Teflas.
Saraswati Puja is organized at two places in the campus: one is by students comprising mostly Bengali students as organisers (though anyone is welcome to join) and the other is by Oriya students (Odisha Sanskrutika Parishad) in the Teflas student activity centre in JNU Campus. The venue for the first Puja this year was KC OAT unlike the previous occasions when it happened between the Kaveri and Periyar hostels.
I was there at about 11 am (20 January 2009) and stayed there for some 35 minutes and left before the puja began. I am putting them in the order that I shot them. Photos are not digitally enhanced thanks to lack of time (and my amateur skills). See JNU Durga Puja here and visit all my JNU related blogs and posts.
JNU Campus Lohri Celebrations Photos
These are some random photos of the Lohri Celebrations in the JNU Campus (venue KC OAT) by the Punjabi Students’ Association of JNU campus. I reached the place rather late at about 9.15 pm with Naushad sir while the Lohri celebrations had started at about 8 pm!
